Dress shopping with my Mom was HARD
Never in a million years did I think I wouldn’t enjoy dress shopping with my mom. Until I didn’t. Yup, dress shopping with my mom was HARD. She had one idea of how she envisioned me and it was not in line with mine. This was 2011 and my "cool bride" options were slim to none. We went to one local shop as well as spending hours in Manhattan at various non-bridal destinations. It was exhausting and I was defeated. Needless to say, Everthine was born only 6 months later. Of course I had the luxury of trying on any gown I wanted at Everthine, but it was my gut that helped me pull the trigger and choose. Did I involve my mom again? Sure, but only once I had narrowed it down to two gowns that spoke to me, and just me.
I’m not writing this to tell you not to bring your mom. I’m writing this to tell you to speak up. I want to remind you that what you wear on your wedding day is YOUR choice. Yes, you may want a trusted opinion, but make sure that it's from someone who knows your personal style best. Someone who knows you inside and out. Someone who can partake in this experience alongside you as a source of encouragement and support. We recommend bringing 1-3 of your closest friends and/or family. Maybe it’s mom, maybe it’s not. That is OKAY! Just remember to communicate to them beforehand how you want to look and feel on your wedding day. This way, you will all have a clear vision of what will be one of the most amazing days of your life.
